Madeira is a long-established German family business based and manufactured in Freiburg im Breisgau, founded in 1919 as "Burkhardt & Schmidt Garnfabrik". The company was the first in the world to bring high-quality viscose embroidery thread for industrial embroidery to market, and was renamed "Madeira Garnfabrik" in 1975. Today, with around 400 employees, Madeira is the global market leader in industrial embroidery thread.
