Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use the gauge calculator?
Enter your knitted stitch count per 10 cm (actual value) and the stitch count from the pattern (target value). The calculator works out the conversion factor and tells you whether to change needle size or yarn.
What does a factor of 0.88 mean?
A factor of 0.88 means you're knitting more tightly than the pattern. Without adjustment, your knitted piece would be too narrow. You can either switch to larger needles or multiply all stitch counts in the pattern by 0.88.
Are the row fields required?
No, the row fields are optional. For the width of a piece (e.g. shoulder width of a sweater), stitches alone are sufficient. Fill in the row fields too if you want to precisely adjust the length.
What if the factor is very far from 1?
For a factor below 0.85 or above 1.15 we recommend choosing a yarn with a more similar gauge. Our alternative yarn finder helps you find the right yarn.
